My Story
Jessica is a born and raised multi-tasker and go getter. While making the Deans List and attending full-time business school at the University of Alberta, Jessica also worked part-time as a welder and attained the certification of Journeyman Welder in 2005. While Jessica attended the University of Alberta full-time from September through to April, she also attended the Northern Alberta Institute for Technology (NAIT) in May and June for three continuous years. She was concurrently a full-time student at the University of Alberta's School of Business, an apprentice welder and a full-time student at NAIT. After earning her Bachelor of Commerce degree with distinction in 2006, Jessica decided to go to Law School. She spent the first year of Law School at Queen's University where she earned the prestigious Golden Scholar Award attaining the highest grade point average (GPA). With her fiance back in Edmonton, Alberta, she transferred to the University of Alberta for the final remaining two years of law school where she consistently remained on the Deans List. In 2009, Jessica graduated with the professional doctorate degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta.
While attending the University of Alberta's Law School, she worked part-time as a research assistant at the prestigious Alberta Law Reform Institute. Jessica articled and subsequently worked at the Edmonton office of a large regional law firm. In 2013, she purchased a retiring lawyer's full-time practice and began her practice as a sole practitioner. Jessica has practiced across northern and central Alberta over the past 15 years. In the spring of 2025, Jessica decided to take a forward thinking approach to the practice of law and moved Bortnick Law Office 100% online and remote, making the provision of legal services more efficient and available to more Albertans.
Jessica is a member of the Golden Key International Honours Society, the Law Society of Alberta, the Cooperative Memorial Society and the Canadian Institute of Certified Executor Advisors. Her practice consists of a general solicitor's practice: dealing with non-litigious matters in the areas of Wills and Estate Planning, Probate and Estate Administration, Corporate, Commercial and Business law.
Jessica enjoys helping clients navigate through what may at times be a legal minefield. She is a firm believer in client education having presented dozens of seminars on the legal aspects of Wills and Estates throughout northern and central Alberta.
